competence in the U.S. Military. She stated that the mission of the
military is not killing people anymore. She also stated that there is
more need for cultural competencies as the military interacts with
people from different cultures in many countries such as Iraq,
Afganhistan etc.
During her presentation, Dr. Laurence gave
real life examples about the implications of cultural competence from
her experiences in Iraq. Towards the end of the luncheon, participants
asked questions about the issue of cultural competence and its
applicability in the U.S. military and the United Nations as well.

to be able to have this opportunity with Dr. Laurence and we look
forward to further meetings with her.
